Music and Me

This is my son banging on the electric drums with my hubby and my son's cousins, they sure look like they're enjoying the beat of a Korean song. My hubby was in a band in his teens, he used to be a drummer and they joined band competitions. My son told me that he wants to play the drums too just like his dad.

Michael Joseph Jackson
1958-2009
Legendary pop icon Michael Joseph Jackson died at age 50. He was reportedly found unconscious, without any pulse and was not breathing, in his Bell Air Mansion and was brought to the nearby UCLA Medical Center where he was declared dead upon arrival. He died of a cardiac arrest. M J was set to have a series of concerts in London by July which was supposed to be his comeback concert. Tickets were already sold out, as the news reported. He's a huge loss to the Music Industry, to the paparazzi and to all his fans worldwide. The Man in the mirror will surely be missed but as all legends, his name and his music will definitely stay with us forever.

Empty Orchestra

If you say empty orchestra in Japanese, you’ll likely end up with a microphone in your hand. That’s because empty orchestra means KARAOKE which is very popular in Japan. It is a form of entertainment in which amateur singers sing along a recorded music and follow lyrics displayed on a monitor. This form of entertainment has been with us since the 1970’s.

There were disputes about who invented the name karaoke. A Japanese named Daisuke Inoue claimed he invented the karaoke-styled machine but he did not bother to patent his invention losing his chance in becoming Japan’s richest man. Then came a Filipino inventor named Roberto Del Rosario who called his sing-along system Minus-One now holds the patent for the device now commonly known as Karaoke Machine.

No wonder Filipinos love music, and some are not satisfied just being audiences, they step up and be performers. That’s the karaoke way of life.
